A huge expo

The UK’s leading product and service suppliers bring their special show-only offers and discounts exclusive to our attendees

Although live education is back and more exciting than ever, we know how well-received online IHCAN education has been over the past 18 months, so that’s why it’s here to stay!

We’ve got world-class speakers and, thanks to a bespoke bit of techno-wizardry, you’ll enjoy a virtual expo featuring specialist practitioner suppliers as well as short break-out sessions and online networking.

A family physician with more than 20 years of clinical experience, Dr Cate Shanahan, MD, is the author of probably the best book ever written on “natural” nutrition. Drawing on the pioneering efforts of the greats such as Dr Weston Price and Dr Francis Pottenger, she’s brought real nutrition bang up to date in Deep Nutrition: Why your Genes need Traditional Food.

How is it different to the IHCAN Conference Webinars?

Using a brand new, bespoke, virtual conference and expo platform, the IHCAN Conferences Virtual Event is a whole-day event with multiple live sessions and a virtual exhibition – bringing the “in-person” conference experience direct to your device.

How does it work?

We’re using a bespoke virtual conference and expo platform – you don’t need to  download any additional software and it will work on every device.

It works best on Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox and we recommend you make sure your browser is up-to-date.

Alternatively, for mobile there’s a simply app to download.

We’ll send you access details two weeks before the event.

“Feed the Masses” with vegetable oil – results from Harvard’s 70-year public health experiment on (almost) the entire population’

70 years ago, men with financial connections to the seed oil industry claimed to have evidence that cholesterol caused heart attacks. Their publications enabled advertiser propaganda to convince hundreds of millions of Americans to abandon traditional ingredients central to heirloom recipes, and instead eat oils manufactured from cottonseed, corn, soy and later canola and others. Today’s obesity and disease epidemics are the result. Yet Harvard denies any connection between this experimental processed oil diet, obesity and chronic disease as well as precipitous health declines among todays youth. This lecture will enable listeners to:

  • Recognise how experts at prestigious institutions tricked the public
  • Completely eliminate seed oils from their diet
  • Confidently refute objections from people who say that seed oils are healthy

‘How our seed oil diet turns your body fat into a toxin-generating machine’

Breakthrough science reveals how our excessive seed oil consumption damages the largest organ in your body: your adipose fat. You are what you eat, and now that the average American’s diet includes 650 calories per day from the most unstable kind of fatty acid, polyunsaturates, our body fat is not able to do it’s primary job of serving up energizing fuel to our body’s cells between meals. When body fat fails to do its job, we become pathologically hungry and we crave the very foods that harm us the most.
Attendees will be able to:

  • Describe the connection between a high seed oil diet and altered adipose tissue composition and function
  • Be able to explain how seed oils drive overeating and sugar/carb cravings in particular
  • Evaluate which patients are more severely metabolically damaged and therefore not yet good candidates for a keto diet or intermittent fasting
About Dr Cate Shanahan

Dr Cate Shanahan is a leading authority on nutrition and human metabolism. A board-certified Family Physician with over 20 years of clinical experience, and NY Times bestselling author of The FatBurn Fix, Deep Nutrition and Food Rules, her expertise is fixing the underlying problems that cause metabolic damage and inflammation, leading to autoimmunity, weight gain, diabetes, cancer and accelerated aging processes. Her passion is helping people feel their best.

After getting her BS in biology from Rutgers University, she trained in biochemistry and genetics at Cornell University’s graduate school before attending Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She practiced in Hawaii for ten years where she studied ethnobotany and her healthiest patient’s culinary habits. She applied her learning and experiences in all these scientific fields to write Deep Nutrition: Why Your Genes Need Traditional Food. Together with Dr. Tim DiFrancesco and NBA legend Gary Vitti, she created the PRO Nutrition program for the LA Lakers and helped forge a partnership between Whole Foods Market and numerous NBA teams. In May of 2018 she begin Director of Metabolic Health for ABC Fine Wine and Spirits, a progressive, family-run company interested in saving money by the betterment of health.

13.00 – 14.30:
‘The Human Microbiome: The Power of Restoring Lost Species’

Numerous factors in modern life–antibiotics, herbicides/pesticides, food additives, etc.–have altered the human intestinal microbiome. Specifically, numerous bacterial species have been lost, some of which performed essential functions for their human hosts. Emerging science is identifying these species that we can replace with often spectacular health effects. I will focus on two microbial species in particular: Lactobacillus reuteri and Bifidobacteriium infantis. Restoring L reuteri is associated with effects that amount to a partial return to youthful characteristics, while restoring B infantis in children yields better sleep, less asthma, IBS, less obesity as older children and a higher IQ. I will show attendees how to obtain, then cultivate these microbes to obtain these benefits.

09.45 – 11.00:
‘Softening client resistance to nutritional change’

Do you sometimes sense that your clients have a subtle resistance to making positive nutritional and lifestyle changes? Are habitual patterns of thought and behaviour constantly triggering a stress response, or trapping them ever more firmly in the signs and symptoms of ill health?

Today’s session offers you practical ideas to help your clients soothe their distress so that both you and they can see their situation more clearly. Learning to turn towards their emotional and physical suffering with a calm, compassionate attitude of self-care allows them to disentangle themselves from unhelpful patterns of thoughts, beliefs and perceptions. Free to act differently, they can then fully engage with your nutrition and lifestyle protocols, enhancing clinical results and setting themselves on a sustainable path to wellness.

About Katie Sheen

Katie qualified from The Institute for Optimum Nutrition in 2008 and established her private practice at Amaranth in Bramhall, winners of the CAM Clinic of the Year 2010.

Initially combining nutritional therapy alongside her work in brain tumour research and support charities, she soon became a lecturer, personal tutor and module leader for the Masters Degree in Nutritional Therapy at the University of Worcester. It was here that she gained her PCGE and MA in Education, beginning to weave mindfulness and mindful eating into her teaching from 2011. She can now be found delivering regular CPD webinars and seminars for health practitioners at Lamberts Healthcare and Pharma Nord UK, alongside a range of public and corporate events.

Katie first discovered mindfulness in 2001, and having used it to process the trauma of her cancer treatment in 2015, she has special interests in both mindfulness for anxiety and mindfulness for pain and fatigue management.

Primarily practicing in the Plum Village tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, she is a course leader for the Plum Village UK ‘Be Calm, Be Happy’ mindfulness course and retreats.

She is also an accredited Breathworks teacher and regularly offers their 8 weeks ‘Mindfulness for Health’ course on Zoom, designed to support and inspire adults living with a wide range of health conditions, from knee injuries and pain syndromes through to stroke recovery and neurodegenerative conditions.

On her website you can access her pre-recorded ‘Mindfulness for Anxiety’ course, currently being viewed in 114 countries across the globe. She also offers you and your clients a free mindful eating food diary, a happiness calendar and an online life coaching model called SHIFT. You can discover more about all these resources on her website at www.soulnutrition.org
